All-electric Nissan Leaf from £23,350 PRICES REVEALED FOR ELECTRIC NISSANNISSAN has set the cost of its new all-electric LEAF at £23,350 thanks to a £5,000 government grant.
The full retail price is £28,350 but the LEAF qualifies for a government subsidy of a quarter of the price up to a limit of £5,000 to encourage early-adopters of electric cars. Further financial considerations are that it is exempt from road tax and also company car tax for five years. Nissan reckons it will also save more than £500 a year in fuel costs against a comparably sized conventional car.
LEAF is a pure battery car with room for five and comes fully equipped with the sort of features expected in a £20,000-plus car such as air conditioning, sat nav, a parking camera and smart-phone connectivity.
Technically it has a range of around 100 miles and a top speed of 90 mph. The lithium-ion battery pack can be recharged back up to 80 per cent of its capacity from a normal domestic 240v power supply in just 30 minutes.
The LEAF is just the start of an electric revolution within Nissan and Renault, its industrial partner, and there will be at least another seven battery cars on sale within a few years.
The LEAF is also good news for Nissan’s manufacturing plant at Sunderland which has been chosen as one of the sites to make the lithium-ion batteries. There are plans to make 60,000 a year there from 2013.
YOU can now pre-register your interest in reserving a LEAF via the Nissan website. Motorists that sign up will be first to find out how to place their order when reservations open in July.
In addition to purchasing the car outright, customers will also be able to buy the car on a Nissan finance plan. Details of the all-inclusive acquisition method will also be released in July.
